CANCER
The Basics
Cancer is a group of diseases that are characterized by abnormal cell growth and the potential to spread to other parts of the body.
There are over 100 types of cancers that affect humans.

What are the hallmarks of cancer?
There are six hallmarks of cancer:
Cells grow and divide when the signals to do so are not present
Cells will continue to grow and divide even when they are signaled to stop
Cancer cells avoid programmed cell death (apoptosis)
There is no limit on cell divisions
Blood vessel construction is promoted
Cancer cells will invade other tissues and form metastases.
