What are the hallmarks of cancer?

There are six hallmarks of cancer:

  • Cells grow and divide when the signals to do so are not present

  • Cells will continue to grow and divide even when they are signaled to stop

  • Cancer cells avoid programmed cell death (apoptosis)

  • There is no limit on cell divisions

  • Blood vessel construction is promoted

  • Cancer cells will invade other tissues and form metastases.
